ORIGINSQuartzes are from a species of crystal birds called Luminales (Lumina + Ales/wings of light). They were created by Vernon, a god of all nature, and blessed with the powers of the goddess of the cosmos, Theia.Their job is to watch over timelines of different stories, protecting the "true timeline/canon" making sure everything goes as planned and splitting off AUs when someone goes off course. Each luminales is assigned a specific genre; Tourmaline for fantasy, Jade for historicals, and Diamond for love stories, etc.Quartz birds are backups. They're there as replacements if the regular bird assigned to a specific story is either unable to handle the environment it's set in, or if their specific species is able to blend into the world better to hide themselves. Cold climate Quartz birds are snowy owls while warm climate Quartzes are either tawny owls or, more rarely, ostritches (mainly for settings in extreme heat like deserts).These Quartz birds get bored at the castle waiting around to be called for task to guard a world, so Vernon allows some of them to travel on their own means. Luminales are also allowed to split off a "personal timeline" if they wish to learn about their world in depth.
